Using the eyes are perhaps one of the strongest nonverbal cues you can have. Windows to the soul, the eyes can be used to tell if someone is lying, or if his smile is false. What about this though:
Picture from BMEzine.comWhat could someone who decides to tattoo his eye communicate about himself? Is he saying that he does not want to be classifed under the conformity label? That he wants to be unique? Is he shouting out to world, his body modification a testament to his free will?
Most of the immediate reaction after one sees the video would be a squemish "Omg! Why would anyone do this??" What do you think? Do these people that go for such uncommon modifications merely want to strive to see what extremes they can reach in exercising their art or free will? Or are these people trying to give a world a message? Perhaps a message about extremity and free will?

It is said that the eyes never lie, and as mentioned before, are the windows to our soul. I can't even begin to count the times I have seen television shows where the protagonist would confidently step in front of the baddie wielding a gun because they could "see in their eyes that they aren’t bad people". Bleh.
Nevertheless, that horrible clichéd scene notwithstanding, a person’s eyes can really tell us alot about what they are thinking or feeling. It is said that people who are lying blink alot, and those who are desperate have a wild look in their eyes.
Lusty eyes, Hungry eyes, Evil eye, Trustworthy eyes, Loving Eyes... the list goes on and on. One thing’s for sure though, if a picture paints a thousand words, our eyes are the pictures to our words.
Just as Brandon pointed out, the eyes never lie. A brilliant statement in itself. For myself, i would say the most stongest of emotions are conveyed non-verbally and the eye one of the most commonly used medium as the message comes out loud and clear. But to this whole new trend about tatooing ones eye, its pretty freaky. I mean in this era, we see the extent to which one goes to be different, to prove a point whatever you call it. Its just shocking, from tatooing, to silicon beads on the hands and body, to scarring. One wonders why these individuals do such things. Probably they have no sense of identity.
Ouch..I think it's really just a matter of pushing the boundaries of body "art"..though I really cannot fathom what's so "artsy" about a process which has a very high chance of actually making you blind..Maybe I'm not "sophisticated" enough to appreciate such body mutilations as "art"..
To me it really just shouts out the message "I'm doing it just cause I can.."..meh.
Some individuals get high off taking new risks with their bodies. Scarification, tongue splitting, body modifications, and now eye tattooing... There may be no end to their 'personal' journey. Rather than what manik said about them having no identity, leading to them trying these things... It might be just a time for experimentation and attraction to an odd avenue. Some people find pleasure from unexpected avenues.
to be different, to stand out from the crowd, individuals do all sort of things to achieve them. manik mentioned that it was due to their lack of identity, well, to a certain extent yes, but more likely they are still searching for one or that their identity calls for this type of behavior.
we have about 7 billion people on earth, and there are bound to be a percentage that do things unimaginable to us. not surprising really.
Maybe its because of their low self esteem and they go for new and risky things to allow themselves to be labeled special. This eye tattoo thingy, it doesnt even look nice, at least body tattoo may beautify yourself and some body tattoos have a strong purpose and deep meaning to it. This eye tattoo... meaningless... foolish...
my opinion is that he is trying to be different, and perhaps stand out from others. tattoos are becoming increasingly common, and these days, having a simple tattoo isn't that big of a deal anymore. so why not go further?
i wouldn't say that these people have no sense of identity; rather, i agree with kristy that this is an avenue for them in trying new things. we all have different hobbies and interests, and if someone seeks pleasure in tattooing his eyeball, well go ahead!
besides, the article did explain that it's a painless procedure!

My question is, why do we even need to be talked about in the first place? I feel that the need of being discussed constantly, be it good or bad, stems from our addiction for approval. Everything we do, eat, wear, use or who we are seen with is executed with subconscious planning to be talked about. For example, we all have seen the 'super-model' of the school, where she turns up everyday in a different outfit, ready for the catwalk leading to the local canteen. Another instance is when one chooses to purchase a costlier iPhone, when all that is required is the phone call and SMS feature. In these cases, choices were made so as to be talked about, and to gain the approval of the people around us.
In closing, I would like to share a quote from the 2005 movie 'Revolver', written by Guy Ritchie.

The eye says everything about us, almost rather. It shows our feelings, our emotions at that moment and our inner most feelings.
Now,having a tattoo on the eye.I dont know about what you think but i sure think that isnt logical unless one wants to look anything but a normal person. In my opinion,that is the ultimate silly thing to do other than the Yakuza's finger-chopping ritual.I cant and will never see the logic of tattooing something so delicate and exquisite as the eye. You gotta be either shit bored or crazy enough not to love yourself. thats how i perceive it. Im sorry for all you eye-tattoo fans out there.
